Now that we are getting (kind of) used to this whole pandemic thing, each day can start to feel like we are stuck in a rut. With limited access to friends, family, and the excitement of the outside world, it can be hard to stay motivated to perform to the best of our ability.

Now more than ever it is important to make sure we are staying on top of our health. We have seen the terrifying effects that the surprise attack of COVID-19 have caused. It is frightening to know that there are diseases in the world that we cannot predict/control. This is why we must remain responsible for staying in control of the things we do know about.
Mental health issues are much more openly discussed and accepted in our society than when I was growing up. I remember the word “therapist” was considered taboo. If anyone wasn’t feeling “textbook happy,” then there was something wrong with you.
As I was flipping through Experience Life Magazine, I came across an article about “gut-healing” foods. I found this article very interesting since many nutrition articles I come across focus only on weight-loss. This new focus is an area of nutrition that I feel is not as familiar to many people
Well, we have reached the peak of summer during a pandemic. I feel like my boys and I had just gotten used to the structure we had created with homeschool. However, now that school is “out” and this strange summer has begun, I feel myself pivoting once again.
My community and I accomplished a huge task last week, and I thought it a perfect time to share. At the beginning of May, I initiated a 30-day push-up challenge. We all started with 5 push-ups and kept increasing the number until we reached 60 push-ups. It was a tough challenge, but with the help of the community (mostly virtual), we were able to conquer it!
This week I made a tough decision that put an end to a very cherished chapter in my life. After a lot of thought, I decided to end my time at the gym where I worked as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer for over ten years. This was a very difficult decision because I created a family within the community of this gym. This community is a large part of the reason why I truly enjoy my job as a fitness instructor. The friends I made in my cycling and strength training group classes have supported and trusted me inside and outside of the gym. I have created strong bonds with these people, and the thought of leaving the place that initiated these bonds was unthinkable for a long time.
When the pandemic started, the media flooded with inspiring commercials, supportive messages from world leaders, and individuals joining forces to beat this terrible virus. It really felt as if we were all coming together and putting aside our differences to overcome this huge obstacle.
As Mother’s Day passed the other day, I began to reflect on my mother and everything she has done for me. My mind usually races on what client I have to train next or the day-to-day tasks of being a parent. However, not being able to see my mother in person on Mother’s Day due to quarantine made me really appreciate her and the things I may have taken for granted before.
It can be hard to maintain positivity while in quarantine. I understand that at this moment, we feel stuck, trapped, and bored. This can all lead to a lack of motivation and even depression. It is easy to limit challenging ourselves when we no longer know the exact outcome of the future.
