2020 is readily approaching and thoughts of new goals and resolutions are beginning to cloud our minds. As humans, we have a limited view of how we want to complete these goals. 1. As fast as possible, and 2. By ourselves with absolutely no help from anyone. Sounds appealing, but this is completely unrealistic. We live in a world where people only display their end goal of success. We open instagram or facebook, turn on E news, or look at the covers of magazines to witness these “superhumans” who seemed to have achieved everything they wanted overnight, and completely by themselves. This is the biggest myth of the 21st century. If you haven’t heard it already, then let me inform you, people need people. If you look at any successful person, they have a team of others who have helped and supported them to get to the top. This “team” was made up of family, friends, business partners, consultants, etc. So what makes these people successful ones? They realized the importance of their community!
As a fitness instructor, I have always been drawn to teaching group fitness classes because of community. Sure, there are lots of ways you can stay healthy and exercise, but I believe group fitness is extremely powerful. Communities Offer Personability The fitness world can be a daunting place. Look to your right and you have meatheads at the gym, grunting uncontrollably every bicep curl. Look to your left and you see unrealistic instagram models, posing in front of the camera with their perfectly sculpted butts. Fitness communities can help you navigate through all of that. Usually, the community you join will be a group of likeminded people who have the same fitness goals as you. They will make the experience fun and enjoyable, rather than uncomfortable and intimidating. Communities Give You Structure Have you ever gone to the gym but didn’t know what to do, what body part to work on, and for how long? Yeah I’ve been there too. It’s a lot of work to make a plan for yourself and actually go to the gym and do it! Group fitness communities take away all of that stress. They provide the structure to your workout and familiarity to your weekly schedule. Having a format to your workout schedule has been proven to decrease intimidation and increase productivity. Communities Inspire you It is proven that the people you surround yourself with automatically rub off on your own character. So surrounding yourself with individuals who are determined, passionate, and positive isn’t a bad thing at all. This is what you will get at group fitness classes. Each person has a goal and is determined to accomplish it. With the help of each other’s positive attitude, it will be easier to complete whatever you set your mind to. Communities Provide Extra Support and Accountability Like I mentioned before, it is hard to do anything worth doing by yourself. Once you are a part of a community, you will have your crew who you rely on and who rely on you. They will be there for you through struggle and success. They will keep you accountable when you aren’t feeling up to hard work. They will remind you how strong you are! Want to join a group fitness community but don’t know where to begin?
