Getting creative during difficult times

What a crazy time we are living in! COVID-19 seems to be all that is being discussed right now. We are hearing it on the news, from our friends and family, and on the Internet. It can be really easy to feel stressed, depressed, and frankly just scared when thinking about the future of our community.

Everyone has been facing multiple roadblocks while our country is attempting to defeat this virus. For example, both of the gyms I work at have temporarily shut down (for good reason), and I am no longer able to use those spaces to train my clients!

If there was a time where we needed to exercise, it would be right now! We all know the physical benefits of exercise, but what I believe we really need right now are the mental benefits. Exercise increases endorphins. Exercise combats stress and anxiety. It leaves you feeling strong and capable, which is a great feeling to have when you are cooped up in quarantine.
Seeing how our society is combating this stress and sadness so creatively has inspired me to do the same. Just like every obstacle in life, we must fight this virus with positivity, perseverance, and community (even if it is virtually).

Personally, I have been exercising more than usual to gain all these benefits. If you know me, you know I like to get my running in. Now I am running more. After every mile, I make sure to get my strength in by doing 25 curb push-ups and 25 curb dips. So If I am running five miles that day, I will be doing 125 pushups and 125 dips. It all adds up!

For the group classes that I teach at the gym, I am still continuing the workouts by following along with my training videos. When it comes to cycling class, I am sticking my regular bike in a bike trainer so I can continue with my RPM cardio.

When it comes to training clients, we are also getting creative! I am now teaching group fitness classes at the park and training in clients’ homes! These group and home workouts provide all the benefits of community, nature, and fitness. Don’t worry--we still practice social distancing.

I have also decided to turn to the Internet. I am creating minimal equipment in-home workouts for clients who choose to stay indoors during this time. I am writing them out and/or filming them on my new YouTube account (technology)!  This way, you can get the best of both worlds: a great workout in the comfort of your own home!

How are you getting creative with your fitness? I want to know! Shoot me a message with your creative ways of staying active during this time. Remember, we are all in this together. It is our duty to lift each other up when faced with a stressful situation such as this virus.

If you are interested in group fitness workouts in the park or my new online workouts, please contact me. It is my job to encourage and uplift with fitness; and especially during this time, I am here for you.
