This time last week it felt as if I’d reached the edge of hope, patience, and positivity. This new normal was stressing me out to the extreme. I had the urge to back out of all commitments—both personal and professional. The unknown had become a reality, and it was freaking me out! I know I am not alone here. Especially for other hourly-wage workers, the panic of this situation has settled in pretty quickly. It wasn’t until I started to accept and submit to the unknown that I found a silver lining. I was so committed to my mindset until I finally realized that we were going to be in this situation for a while. Then I slowly started to adjust my outlook. Yes, there are terrible things happening in the world, and we shouldn’t be ignorant about what is happening or who this is affecting. However, I have realized that worrying about the future is not going to help me or my family. Once I accepted the situation, I began to realize how busy I actually am during this time. My clients have been great by adjusting to online and written workouts, I have been keeping busy with my personal workouts, and I am able to enjoy much-needed quality time with my boys. Quality time with my boys was a big factor in changing my mindset. I am almost never on the same schedule as Logan and Finn. Therefore, being able to actually sit down and watch a movie with them or spend some quality time is really special. I believe that it is hard to accept this kind of change for so many of us because we like knowing what is going on. It is terrifying to move into an unknown space where we find ourselves in our homes with nothing to do for hours on end. It is terrifying to lose the privilege of earning money or going outside. Realizing that we are in an uncontrollable situation can be frustrating and scary. But with all things, this is yet another part of life (even though it is a weird part). We have to be able to grow and change with our environment, accept it, and offer what we can to the world. Once I realized this, I began to enjoy the simple things of this new world in which we are living. I’ve been seeing many individuals realize this as well. People are getting creative and sharing their gifts in new ways to people all over the world. It is refreshing to watch. It has made me realize that it is okay to look at the darkness, but we must not stare. If we begin to stare, then we can’t contribute our amazing gifts to society during times of uncertainty. We must find the silver lining in any situation and adjust our expectations. This is what life is all about! How are you finding your silver lining? What new things are you realizing about yourself or your situation that are positive? What are you offering to your community? Let’s keep this conversation of positivity going in the midst of all this negativity. Let’s not stare into the darkness!
