Frequently Asked Questions

1. How quickly will I begin to see results?
Results are dictated by dedication and good habit setting. We didn’t get to where we are overnight, after just a few poor choices. It was a process. The same applies to reversing where we are now. It will be a process, with good habits being established and maintained through fitness and nutrition. My job is to go along with you on this journey. I will guide you, teach you and encourage you. But ultimately, it is up to you to create change.

2. How often do I need to train?
My job is to make whatever you are able to commit to in the way of training with me on a weekly basis, work. My weekly minimum with clients is either two 1/2 hour sessions or one 1 hour session. I also offer online workout regimens for a small fee to my clients to get them in the gym an additional two days a week, outside of our sessions. A commitment of 4-5 days a week of exercise and movement is necessary to see change. I will hold you accountable, no matter how often we train because your success means everything to me.

3. What is more important: my exercise commitment or what I’m eating?
One goes hand-in-hand with the other. Both components make up the complete picture of how we feel and what our results are in attaining and maintaining our health goals. Now, with that said, age does affect the ratio of fitness vs. food importance. In my younger years I was able to eat more freely (nothing crazy, of course) and my activity level compensated for my occasional increased calorie intake. However, as I age graciously, I have to be more mindful on what my food intake is and how much I’m taking in. My activity level has maintained and yet, I find my body changing and being more affected by my food choices, due to metabolism shifts and hormone changes. But it’s possible and a great way to be more mindful of what I’m putting in to my body.

4. How long will I need to train with you?
Everyone is different. Some people need the accountability just as much as they need the instruction. Some people attain sufficient knowledge from my sessions to branch off and do their own workouts once gleaning enough knowledge from my sessions with them. As with everything in personal training, it’s about me getting to know my clients, finding out their needs, and tailoring their trainings to who they are and what their goals are. That’s my job and I take it seriously… while having fun with you!
5. Is it better to focus more on cardio exercise or strength training?
It depends on what your goal is as to what your focus will be. To lose weight, cardio is absolutely necessary. However, strength training is a necessary component to the total picture. The stronger we are, the more our metabolism maintains its “youthful” function. In other words, strength training helps to reverse the natural slowing down of our metabolism as we age. Overall, it is against my philosophy to go all one way in training (and nutrition, for that matter) and leave important components outs. Finding balance in both cardio exercise and strength training will better build your fitness level. They work best together. It’s my job to help you find this balance.
